What is DI?

DI is the world's largest creative problem solving program for kindergarten through college-aged learners, going strong in 50 states and over 40 countries. Teams of up to 7 members solve one of six different Challenges, which they perform in front of appraisers at tournaments. DI participants develop life skills while solving challenges through their unique hands-on experiences in the sciences, technology, mechanics, engineering, theater, improvisation, goal setting, time and budget management, team building, and leadership. Our ultimate goal is to teach participants that through their creativity, teamwork, and perseverance, they can DIvelop creative solutions to complex problems completely on their own! For more information on all DI's programs, see the DI, Inc. website at www.idodi.org.

Who can join? Anyone! Your school, PTA, gifted program, Community Ed or after school program, homeschool group, YMCA or YWCA, Scouting programs, 4H, community organization, your family - anyone up for a challenge and fun!

Calling Teens to Construction Challenge!
Construction Industry Hiring 1 million jobs by 2012

Middle and high school students around the US and Canada are urged to form teams for the second annual Construction Challenge. Teams will collaborate and solve challenges based in manufacturing design, service tech, and critical infrastructure issues, as well as learn about career opportunities in the construction industry.

Sponsored by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), this year's teams will compete in a Regional Rally on February 7, 2009 in hopes of earning a spot at the Construction Challenge Championships, May 19-23, 2009, in Knoxville, TN. The Construction Challenge is open to students in grades 6-12, or the equivalent in technical or vocational schools. Registration is $120 (including shipping and handling). Teams can be 5-7 members, and must have a supervising adult Team Manager who is at least 21. Up to 50 teams may compete in each of 16 Rallies across the country, with the winning teams advancing to the Championships. Championship winners will receive awards and honors, including scholarships and the opportunity to work with AEM firms in the future. This year's prize is valued at $75,000.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get acquainted with the manufacturing industry and the vast array of career opportunities available. There is NO PREP, except for a few hours of research, for the February 7 rally! For more information or to sign up for Minnesota's Regional Rally, please visit www.constructionchallenge.org.
